Uppingham School
Uppingham School is an independent institutional school that borrows heavily from the ways of the English public school tradition. The school is located in the small town of Uppingham in Rutland, England. The institute was established in 1584 by Robert Johnson, the Archdeacon of Leicester who also associated with the establishment of Oakham School.
The very first headmaster, The Reverend Edward Thring who served as headmaster from the years 1854-1887, is perhaps remembered by his numerous ground-breaking changes to the school’s curriculum which were later espoused in other English public schools.
It is however good to note that during Reverend Edward Thring as headmaster; the institution relocated briefly to Borth in Wales after an epidemic of typhoid atrophied the town. The move to Borth is marked with a service once a year which is held in the school chapel.
Uppingham School: Academia
Uppingham School has teachers who totally dedicate their time in the classrooms, and concentrate unapologetically on the “total curriculum”. Curriculum
The Uppingham Syllabus begins with a comprehensive range of subjects, which is then used as a foundation on which to build steady concentration. The topics offered take cognisance of the National Curriculum, but the Institute takes advantage of its independence to substitute options beyond the National Curriculum’s borders.

Uppingham School: Grants & Subsidies
Every year Uppingham grants a varying number of Grants across a figure of disciplines. Grants are valued up to one-half of the fees; the examinations take place in March each year. Means-Tested Subsidies are accessible up to 100% of the full fee in circumstances of real monetary need, to help children whose parents might not otherwise be able to manage to pay for an Uppingham education to take up such a chance.
